At the Next Generation Dairying Conference 2024, held on November 18-19, 2024, at the Moredun Research Institute, Edinburgh, Umut Kartal, researcher at the James Hutton Institute, presented the poster titled:

“Field Bean (Vicia faba L.) to Spring Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) Production in Scotland: A Life Cycle Assessment.”

The study applied life cycle assessment (LCA) to evaluate the environmental impacts of shifting from field bean to spring barley production in Scotland. This research offers key insights into the sustainability of such transitions in Scottish agriculture.

The work was presented as a “living poster,” combining a 5-minute talk with an interactive poster session in the conference foyer. This format encouraged valuable discussions on sustainable farming practices and their potential benefits for agricultural systems.
