On May 9, the project of Sino-European intergovernmental cooperation “Sino-European International Cooperation Project on Nature-based Solutions for Agricultural Nutrient Management (Econutri)”, the European side of the project, the European side of the chief Prof. Dimitrios Savvas of the Agricultural University of Athens (Greece), the Chinese side of the chief Prof. Chen Qing of the China Agricultural University (CAU), and the project cadre Dr. Junhui Yin visited the School of Resource and Environmental Sciences of the Nanjing Agricultural University for discussion and exchange. Prof. Dimitrios Savvas of Athens Agricultural University, the European lead of the project, Prof. Qing Chen of China Agricultural University, Dr. Junhui Yin of Sun Yat-sen University, the backbone of the project, and their delegation visited the School of Resource and Environmental Sciences of Nanjing Agricultural University (NAMU) to have a discussion and exchange. Associate Professor Shen Zongzhuan, Dr. Deng Xuhui and graduate students of Nanjing Agricultural University, who are the task leaders of the Sino-European project, participated in the meeting and exchanged ideas.

During the workshop, Prof. Dimitrios Savvas introduced the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), Greece, and focused on the background of the Econutri project, its research content, and the progress and application of the DSS (Decision System for Nutrient Decision Making in Soil and Soilless Vegetables) in Greece. In addition, Prof. Dimitrios Savvas gave a presentation on “Use of legumes as an additional N source in organic greenhouse tomato crops”, introducing the importance of using green manure as an additional N source for the production of tomatoes in organic agriculture. Prof. Savvas also gave a presentation on “Use of legumes as an additional N source in organic greenhouse tomato crops”, which introduced the impact of using green manure as an additional N source on tomato production in organic agriculture. Associate Professor Shen Zongzhuan, task leader of the Sino-European project, reported on the research progress of the Sino-European project and the next step plan, and the two project chief experts commented on the progress of the project and put forward pertinent suggestions on data mining, technology integration and application demonstration of scientific experiments, and so on.

After the presentation, Prof. Dimtrios and his team visited our experimental base in the Vegetable Science and Technology Park of Nanjing Vegetable Science Institute. Nanjing Institute of Vegetable Science has been cooperating with Nanjing Agricultural University for a long time, and as the landing base of the new technology, it will also be the technology beneficiary of the Sino-European project and participate in the technology demonstration work of the project. Deputy Director of the Institute, Researcher Wang Dongsheng, and Section Director, Associate Researcher Li Weiming, gave a detailed introduction to the specifics of the test base, and Prof. Dimitrios Savvas and Prof. Chen Qing also gave professional advice on modern greenhouse intelligent soilless cultivation within the Institute and look forward to continuing in-depth cooperation.

Through this academic exchange activity, the project task bearer Nanjing Agricultural and Agrarian University has further clarified the cooperative research objectives, research focus, and has a clear blueprint for the future research results, which strongly promotes the implementation of the Sino-European cooperation project, helps to promote the Sino-European international cooperation in agricultural nutrition management based on natural solutions, and jointly explores production technologies and industrial models suitable for sustainable and high-quality development of facility agriculture in both China and Europe. We will explore together production technologies and industrial models that are suitable for the sustainable and high-quality development of facility-based agriculture in China and Europe.
