On May 5, the European hosts of the Sino-European intergovernmental cooperation project “Sino-European International Cooperation on Nature-based Solutions for Agricultural Nutrient Management (ECONUTRI)”, Prof. Dimitrios Savvas and his wife Mrs. Antriana from the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) in Greece, Prof. Chen Qing and Dr. Junhui Yin from China Agricultural University (CAU), visited the Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forestry (HBAF) for discussions and exchanges. The European host Prof. Dimitrios Savvas and his wife Ms. Antriana from Athens Agricultural University, the Chinese host Prof. Chen Qing from China Agricultural University, and Dr. Yin Junhui from Sun Yat-sen University visited Hebei Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences (HAAFS) to discuss the project. Mr. Zhang Qiang, Vice President of the Academy of Agriculture and Forestry of Hebei Province, attended the meeting and delivered a speech, while members of the Chinese and European project teams participated in the exchange meeting. The meeting was presided over by researcher Wang Liying, deputy secretary of the Institute and host of the Sino-European project.
Mr. Zhang Qiang, Vice President of the Institute, expressed his warm welcome and heartfelt thanks for the visit of the chief scientists of both sides of the Sino-European project. In view of the problems of the agricultural resources and the agricultural environment in Hebei Province, he hoped that all the experts and colleagues would make full use of this opportunity to have in-depth exchanges with the two chief experts, to discuss the new ideas and initiatives for cooperative research, to face the global nutrition management problems and challenges in agricultural production together, to share their successful experiences, and to work out solutions for the benefit of the global agriculture. In the workshop, Prof. Dimitrios, the chief scientist of the European project, introduced the disciplines of the Agricultural University of Athens, Greece, and focused on the background of the European project, the research content, and the research progress and application of the Decision System for Nutrient Decision Making (DSS) for Soil and Soilless Vegetables in Greece; Prof. Chen Qing, the chief scientist of the Chinese project, introduced the participating units, research content, and how to effectively organize the smooth implementation of the project to ensure the completion of the expected targets. Professor Chen Qing, project leader of the Chinese side, introduced the participating units, research contents and how to effectively organize the smooth implementation of the project to ensure the completion of the expected targets; Researcher Wang Liying, project leader of the Chinese-European project, reported on the progress of the research of the Chinese-European project and the next step of the project, and shared her experience on how to effectively docking with the European side. The chief scientists of the project commented on the progress of the project respectively, and put forward good suggestions on scientific experiment data mining, technology integration and application demonstration.
At the seminar, Mr. Zhang Meishen, Minister of External Cooperation Department of Hebei Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, introduced the scientific research, achievements, talents and external exchanges of the whole academy, and Mr. Jia Liangliang, Deputy Director of the Institute of Resource and Environmental Sciences, introduced the positioning of the Institute of Resource and Environmental Sciences, its disciplinary setup, research team and achievements, and after the exchanges, the two sides reached a preliminary agreement on the enhancement of the cooperation and exchanges and exchange of visits.
Director Hou Shenglin summarized the meeting and thanked the Chief Scientist of the China-EU project for sharing the project ideas and progress, which plays an important role for IISER to further grasp the scientific issues precisely, optimize the construction of disciplines and research direction, as well as strengthen the external cooperation and exchange, and hoped that scientific and technological personnel would face the international scientific and technological frontiers and the industrial demands in the field of IISER, and strengthen the learning and exchange with domestic and foreign experts in order to achieve better research results.
After the report meeting, the Chinese and European experts also went to the long-term positioning experiment of vegetable nutrition management in the National Agricultural Science Observation Shijiazhuang Experiment Station, and put forward specific guidance on the application of organic fertilizers to replace chemical fertilizers, the precise management of water and fertilizers, and the application of DSS system to achieve nitrogen and phosphorus emission reduction in vegetable production.
