On July 20, the mid-term meeting of the Chinese side of the ECONUTRI project for the year 2024 and the training and exchange meeting of the scientific and technological specialists were successfully held in Heihe City. The meeting was hosted by the College of Resources and Environment of the project hosting unit, China Agricultural University, and co-hosted by the Institute of Heilongjiang Province for the Protection and Utilization of the Black Soil and the Heilongjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences Heihe Branch, with a total of more than 60 representatives of the project experts, the backbone of the project and the beneficiaries of the technology attending. Project experts, project cadres and representatives of technology beneficiaries totaling more than 60 people attended the meeting.
“The Sino-European International Cooperation Project on Innovative Nutrient Management Based on Nature-based Solutions (ECONUTRI) is a key project of the 14th Five-Year National Key R&D Program “Intergovernmental Cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation”, co-funded by the European Union and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). “The project is co-funded by the European Union and the Ministry of Science and Technology. The lead unit of the Chinese project is China Agricultural University, and the participating units include Nanjing Agricultural University, Heilongjiang Black Soil Protection and Utilization Research Institute, Hebei Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, Stanley Agricultural Group Company Limited and Shouguang Vegetable Industry Holding Group Company Limited, which are six units. The lead unit of the European project is the Agricultural University of Athens, Greece, which is jointly undertaken by 24 universities, research institutes and enterprises. The project is to promote the application of innovative technologies and products to intensive planting-farming production to achieve nitrogen and phosphorus nutrient efficiency and pollution reduction.
On the morning of July 20, the meeting was hosted by Gao Hongsheng, Vice President of Heilongjiang Institute of Black Soil Conservation and Utilization, and the Chinese host of the project, Prof. Chen Qing of China Agricultural University, introduced the basic situation of the project. The meeting invited Liu Hongbin, researcher of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Wei Dan, researcher of Beijing Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, Liu Jian, researcher of Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy, Prof. Liu Xuejun and Prof. Hu Kelin of China Agricultural University, Prof. Shen Zongzhuan, associate professor of Nanjing Agricultural University, and Deer Wencheng, researcher of Heilongjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Heihe Branch, to give reports.
From the afternoon of July 20 to the morning of July 21, each task leader reported on the progress of the five tasks of the project. Associate Prof. Tao Zhang, Associate Researcher Jianshuo Shi and PhD student Lulu Wei summarized the stage of WP1 “Nitrogen and Phosphorus Emission Reduction Technology Research on Livestock and Poultry Farming Wastewater Storage, Treatment and Returning to the Field”; Associate Prof. Zongzhuan Shen and PhD student Angel Wang summarized the stage of WP2 “Safe Treatment and Functional Product Application Research on Cultivation Solid Waste and Vegetable Straw”; Prof. Bin Liang, Associate Prof. Zhou Jia reported the progress of each task leader on the five tasks of the project. Prof. Bin Liang, Research Associate Zhou Jia, Prof. Yongqiang Tian, Associate Prof. Kangguo Mu, Manager Zhou Wang, Associate Research Associate Xuejia Gu, Associate Research Associate Xueli Chen and Associate Prof. Zongzhuan Shen summarized the stage of WP3 “Research on innovative technologies, products and model integration to achieve nitrogen and phosphorus emission reduction under facility and open soil cultivation system”, respectively. Prof. Qiao Yuhui, Associate Researcher Wan Shuming and Prof. Tian Yongqiang summarized WP4 “Innovative Technologies and Models for Nitrogen and Phosphorus Emission Reduction in Organic and Soilless Cultivation Systems”, respectively; Dr. Yin Junhui, Mr. Wang Zhou and Dr. Cao Wenchao summarized WP5 “Innovative Technologies and Models for Nitrogen and Phosphorus Emission Reduction in Facilities and Open-land Soil Cultivation Systems”, respectively. Dr. Junhui Yin, Mr. Zhou Wang and Dr. Chao Cao summarized WP5 “Application assessment and demonstration of innovative nutrient management technology model based on natural solutions”. The project leaders summarized the previous research and technology promotion work of the project, which strongly promoted the completion of the research tasks. In addition, the meeting also invited General Manager of Irikana (Shanghai) Agriculture Co., Ltd. and Chairman of Weifang Huijinhai Internet of Things Co., Ltd., Mr. Xu Baogang, to introduce the role of monosulphur fertilizer on crop yield and fertilizer efficiency, and the three elements of precise water and fertilizer management (water fertilizer machine + DSS + water soluble fertilizer), respectively.
In the afternoon of July 21, various project experts, project backbones and representatives of technology beneficiaries visited important scientific research platforms such as the demonstration base of nitrogen and phosphorus emission reduction technology with synergy of products and innovative technologies under soybean and jade rotation conditions, soybean breeding base of Heihe Branch and national field observation station, etc., and spoke highly of the design and management of the scientific research platforms.
The meeting was held to promote the integration and application of the project’s innovative technologies and products, facilitate the close cooperation between the project team and the enterprises that are beneficiaries of the technologies, and enhance the industrialization and promotion of the application of the project team’s innovative achievements. Combined with the training of science and technology specialists, it has expanded the publicity and influence of the project, which is of great significance in addressing global challenges such as climate change, food security and energy security.
