1. UK/Edinburgh – JHI – P30

Demonstrator: Centre for Sustainable Cropping at JHI – Novel organic cropping technologies

Long term six-crop rotation (potato, winter-wheat, -barley, -oilseed, spring-field beans, -barley). Over 42 ha, each field of ca 7 h which has a split treatment (ca 3.5 h each) of either low input “sustainable” or high input “conventional”. For more info: https://csc.hutton.ac.uk/

2. Belgium – EL ILVO – P21

Demonstrator: Experimental dairy and pig barn of EV ILVO – Technologies to reduce GHG emissions

Type and volume of input materials/products

State-of-the-art research barns, for dairy cows, sows and fattening pigs, including specific equipment to monitor growth, feed efficiency, emissions, energy usage, etc, equipped with sensor nodes, data acquisitive and processing to form a reference measuring method.

Real time information on the temporal and spatial distribution of indoor air quality parameters (including visualisation); measurement of the emission levels of air pollutants based on the monitoring network (OTICE).

3. Petrousa Drama, Greece – WP & AUA – P17 & P1

Demonstrator: Experimental glasshouse of Wonderplant SA – AUA –  Recycling of fertigation effluents in greenhouses using ion selective electrodes

Type and volume of input materials/products

Tomato cultivation (20.1 ha) in a closed soilless system with mineral wool as substrate. Conventional management of nutrition that entails periodic discharge of fertigation effluents. Cultivation of fruit vegetables in a closed-loop soilless system

Type & volume of output materials/products

Use of novel DSS in combination with ion selective electrodes (ISE) to optimise recycling of the fertigation effluents (drainwater), thus eliminating discharge of NO3 and P to aquifers, and maximising nutrient use efficiency (application in both demonstration sites).

4. Fields spread over Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy – VERVAET – P15

Demonstrator: Commercial farms Chiari, Biaggi, Jumpers & Vandenborne  (contractors of VERVAET) –  Technologies limiting nutrient losses during & after manure application

5. Skierniewice, PL – INHORT – P18

Demonstrator: Experimental facilities (greenhouse and open-field orchard) of INHORT –

Composting with microbial consortia minimising nutrient loses

Use of specific microbial consortia (Streptomyces, Pseudomonas) and different additives (biochar, PGPR strains, the derived bio-organic fertilizers, microbial bioproducts) to accelerate composting and increase nutrient content/ bioavailability

Type & volume of output materials/products

With the use of newly elaborated microbial fertilizers, a circular agricultural production system will be established, in which organic waste biomass is processed to recover plant nutrients and return to the soil to support a sustainable production with minimal polluting emissions, towards a target of zero pollution.

6. Brandenburg, Denmark – ATB – P16

Demonstrator: Leibniz Innovation Farm -Technologies to reduce GHG emissions in dairy barns

State-of-the-art research barns, for dairy cows including specific equipment to monitor milk yield, animal stress, animal health, emissions, equipped with animal sensors, sensor nodes, data acquisitive and processing

Real time information on the temporal & spatial distribution of indoor air quality parameters (including visualisation); measurement of the emission levels of air pollutants based on the monitoring network (OTICE); measurement of animal stress and health parameters

7. Beijing and Nanjing, China – CAU – P27

Demonstrator: Experimental Centre of CAU – Technologies to reduce GHG and NH3 emissions

Type and volume of input materials/products

Greenhouse gas (GHG) and NH3 emissions from greenhouse vegetable crops

Type & volume of output materials/products

Combined application of urease/nitrification/denitrifi-cation inhibitors in a range of concentrations, carbon-based materials, and bacterial strains in composting to minimise aerial losses of nitrogen, thus reducing NH3 and GHG emissions by 20%.

8. Shandong Centre, East China – SVG – P25

Demonstrator: Danhe, greenhouse production facilities of the company SVG – Novel fertilisers and additives

Type and volume of input materials/products

Tomato and cucumber are planted in the greenhouse, and each is set up with a test verification area and a conventional production area, each area is 0.2 ha, 0.8 ha in total.

Type & volume of output materials/products

Use of fertigation technology based on DSS in combination with novel fertilisers and additives, including humic acid functional products to promote vegetable yield, reduce nitrogen and phosphorus leaching loss, NH3 and GHG emissions.
