A series of conferences were held from 7 to 9 April 2023, across Crete under the theme “Synergies between farmers, research & technology”. The events took place in Spili (April 7), Heraklion (April 8), and Ierapetra (April 9), bringing together universities, research institutes, farmers’ associations, and agri-business representatives to discuss innovation and the future of farming in Greece within the framework of the new CAP 2023–2027.
Among the distinguished speakers was Evangelos Giannothanasis from the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), who presented the ECONUTRI Project on April 8 in Heraklion and April 9 in Ierapetra. His presentation, titled “Integrated nutrition-fertilization management software for slow filtration filters, aimed at recycling and disinfecting nutrient solutions in hydroponic crops”, showcased ECONUTRI’s innovative contribution to sustainable greenhouse production and nutrient recycling.
The events were co-organized by multiple stakeholders, including the Agricultural University of Athens, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, ELGO–DIMITRA, CIHEAM Chania, Future Intelligence, and the Panhellenic Farmers’ Union (PEFA), with the support of the Region of Crete and other local partners.
By promoting innovative practices and research-driven tools, ECONUTRI’s participation demonstrated how European-funded projects contribute to strengthening the link between science and farming practice, addressing challenges in fertilizer efficiency, water use, and environmental sustainability.
