On January 31, 2025, during the Zootechnia exhibition, a dedicated seminar titled “Smart Greenhouses: The Future of Greek Agriculture” took place, organized by the Hellenic Association of Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers (EKAGEM) with the support of Piraeus Bank and Plastika Kritis.

The event brought together policymakers, researchers, financial institutions, and agricultural stakeholders to discuss the modernization of the primary sector through smart greenhouse technologies.

Econutri partner Dr. Nikolaos Katsoulas, Professor at the University of Thessaly (UTH), was a key speaker where he emphasized the strategic role of greenhouses as technology accelerators. He highlighted their ability to:

  • Boost productivity and efficient resource use
  • Address climate change challenges
  • Strengthen the supply chain and export capacity

Dr. Katsoulas stressed that the future of greenhouse development in Greece depends on strategic planning, intersectoral cooperation, innovation, and sustainability roadmaps.

His perspective aligned with the broader message of the event: that smart greenhouses are a key pathway toward a more resilient and competitive agricultural sector in Greece and beyond.
