Our partner Umut Kartal from the James Hutton Institute (JHI), presented at the 2nd meeting of the UK-Legume Research Community (https://uklrc.org/), held at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew (London, UK).
His research focused on the utilization of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and how field (faba) beans as a pre-crop can reduce the environmental impact of following cereal (barley) crops. Findings showed that cereal yields can be accurately predicted using weather data and field bean yield, emphasizing the importance of data-driven nitrogen fertilization reductions in precision agriculture.
The results emerge from long-term data collected at JHI’s Centre for Sustainable Cropping, a regenerative system where nature-based solutions are integrated to deliver multiple benefits.
