Another successful #grondteeltdag (soil crops day)!

On 21st November Glastuinbouw Nederland organized the soil crops day to discuss issues pertinent to greenhouse entrepreneurs who grow their crops in soil. The primary focus was the Water Framework Directive set to take effect in the EU in 2027. This directive states, among goals for other pollutants and industries, that greenhouse horticulture may no longer emit nitrates into the surface of groundwater.

One of the methods that the EcoNutri project is tackling this goal is through the implementation of the Virtual Lysimeter at soil-bound greenhouse growers. This model connects to grower climate computers to make a soil water-balance and transpiration model to provide valuable insight into the soil and enable smart irrigation strategies to prevent draining to ground water.

Thanks to Wim Voogt for presenting the Virtual Lysimeter and to Marrah Pfister for organizing the event!
