On 10 July 2025, an educational visit to University of Thessaly’s Pilot Greenhouse Park in Velestino was organized as part of the European project “NBS ACADEMY: A European Academy for integrating Nature-based Solutions (NBS) in teacher education”.
The project has been running for the past two years at the University of Thessaly, co-funded by the European Union, with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering serving as the scientific lead under the coordination of Mr. Korakis.
The visit took place within the framework of the NBS Academy Summer School, a two-week international programme bringing together more than 30 educators from Greece, Cyprus, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, and Sweden, along with experts in the field of education.
The central theme of the Summer School is Sustainable Development and Nature-Based Solutions (NBS). The visit to Velestino was part of the hands-on learning activities, designed to bridge theory with practice and to highlight innovative applications of NBS in controlled environments.
During the visit, participants were also introduced to the ECONUTRI project, which is also advancing sustainability and innovation in agriculture through sustainable nutrient management strategies for greenhouse cultivation.
