MAFIGOLD (Food waste, fish sludge and manure – from problem to farmer’s gold)
is a project with broad participation from green and blue sectors and funding is from “Research funds for agriculture and food industry (FFL/JA) administered by the Research Council of Norway. The goal has been to develop efficient and sustainable solutions to recycle nutrients and reduce geographically unbalanced distribution of nutrients.

For five years, we have worked with de-watering, separation and pelleting of manure, we have created new fertilizer mixtures based on fish sludge and manure and have tested these products, as well as new peat-free growth media in greenhouses and in field trials.

The seminar will disseminate knowledge from the project to the partnership and to users in the blue and green sectors. The work in MAFIGOLD is being taken further in an EU project ECONUTRI (ECOlogicaly sustainable NUTRIent management), which started in November 2022. The goal is to reduce the loss of nitrogen, phosphorus and carbon. In the seminar we will present the knowledge status (from MAFIGOLD) and show how recycling is taken a step further (in ECONUTRI).
