
From 14 to 18 July 2025, the Agricultural University of Athens hosted the ECONUTRI Summer School titled “Sustainable Nutrient Management in Soilless Culture to Optimise Crop Performance and Minimise Environmental Impacts.”
The programme gathered over 100 participants, including students, researchers, agronomists, and stakeholders for an intensive week of knowledge exchange, practical tools, and scientific dialogue.
Keynote Presentations
The training featured a dynamic lineup of agricultural experts who delivered high-quality lectures and practical insights across the five days:
- Prof. Dimitrios Savvas: Soilless culture, nutrient solution composition, Nutrient recycling in closed-loop systems, NUTRISENSE DSS
- Prof. Nikos Katsoulas: Technical equipment and greenhouse microclimate in in soilless cropping systems
- Dr. Ioannis Karavidas: Nutrient needs of greenhouse crops and substrate interactions
- Dr. Georgios Ntinas: Environmental and carbon footprint, life cycle assessments
- Prof. Rodney Thompson: Spain and Mediterranean soilless systems and nutrient retention
- Dr. Tommaso Barbagli: Fertiliser recipe calculations, interpreting analysis reports
- Prof. Marisa Gallardo: Modelling for improved nutrient management
Participants had the chance to interact directly with the lecturers and ask questions throughout the sessions.
