The University of Thessaly (UTH), a key partner of the ECONUTRI Horizon Europe Project, was recently featured in the EU magazine Horti Daily, highlighting its groundbreaking work on cascade hydroponic systems.

In this article, UTH researchers present how cascade hydroponics can play a crucial role in improving the circularity and sustainability of modern agriculture. By reusing nutrient-rich water from one crop system to feed another, this approach minimizes nutrient losses, reduces freshwater use, and supports sustainable nutrient management — one of ECONUTRI’s core objectives.

The system is currently being tested at UTH’s advanced experimental greenhouse facilities in Greece.
