Researchers from the University of Turin (UNITO) participated in the 5th European Sustainable Phosphorus Conference: „Sustainable Phosphorus Management with a focus on the Mediterranean Context, held from 8 to 10 October 2024 in Lleida, Spain.

During the conference, UNITO presented the oral contribution entitled “A circular approach to phosphorus recovery: struvite precipitation from biomass waste.”

The presentation focused on innovative approaches for recovering phosphorus from biomass waste through struvite precipitation, highlighting the potential of circular solutions to transform waste streams into valuable resources for agriculture. This work is closely aligned with ECONUTRI’s objectives to promote sustainable nutrient management, reduce nutrient losses, and support the transition towards circular and resource-efficient agricultural systems.

By contributing to the European dialogue on sustainable phosphorus management, UNITO helped showcase how research-based solutions can address key challenges related to nutrient recovery, waste valorisation and environmental protection, particularly within the Mediterranean context.
