As part of ECONUTRI WP3, a second demonstration trial was carried out in Bleiswijk, the Netherlands, on July 4, 2025. The trial focused on strawberry cultivation under higher sodium (Na) levels, showcasing alternative crop options and strategies to optimize nutrient management in soilless cultivation.
The demonstration was a joint effort between Wageningen University & Research (WUR) and Glastuinbouw Nederland (LGNL), both key partners in the ECONUTRI consortium.
A group of 12 growers visited the trial site, where they observed the cultivation practices, discussed practical challenges, and exchanged insights with the research teams. This activity highlights ECONUTRI’s commitment to testing innovative approaches in real-world settings and supporting growers in adapting to more sustainable cultivation practices.
Through trials like these, ECONUTRI contributes to developing solutions that reduce nutrient losses, improve fertilizer efficiency, and strengthen the resilience of European horticulture.
