At the 14th Panhellenic Conference of the Hellenic Society of Agricultural Engineers, held in Agria, Volos, on 21–22 October 2025, our partner Sofia Faliagka from University of Thessaly (UTH) presented research on reducing nutrient leaching in soilless cascade cropping systems.
The presentation, titled “Evaluation of Nitrogen and Phosphorus Leaching Reduction in a Soilless Cascade Cropping System,” showed that the cascade system improved nutrient use efficiency while significantly reducing nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium leaching losses. Although yield was slightly lower than the control, the results highlight the potential of cascade systems as a more sustainable and resource-efficient solution for greenhouse agriculture.
This work supports ECONUTRI’s mission to promote innovative practices for sustainable nutrient management and environmentally friendly crop production.
