On 1 April 2026, the ECONUTRI project was presented by the project coordinator, Prof. Dimitrios Savvas, during the workshop \u201cDigital Transformation in Agriculture: Knowledge and Innovation Networks\u201d, organised by the EU project TALLHEDA.<\/p>\n

The presentation began with a short overview of the main objectives of ECONUTRI and then focused on one of the project\u2019s most promising innovations: the use of the NUTRISENSE Decision Support System (DSS) in combination with the ion selective electrodes (ISE) developed by APTISENS (formerly Clean Grow).<\/p>\n

This integrated solution, known as NUTRISENSE-ISE, enables the smart management of plant nutrition in closed-loop soilless cropping systems, contributing to significant reductions in resource use. More specifically, it has the potential to reduce nutrient inputs by 40% and water inputs by 30%, supporting more efficient and sustainable greenhouse production.<\/p>\n

The technology was developed by the Laboratory of Vegetable Production within the framework of the ECONUTRI project and is currently being tested and demonstrated under semi-commercial greenhouse conditions in cucumber cultivation. The first results are reported to be very promising, highlighting the strong potential of this innovation for improving nutrient and water management in soilless agriculture.<\/p>\n

The workshop provided a valuable opportunity to showcase how digital tools and innovation networks can support the transition towards more sustainable and knowledge-driven agricultural systems.<\/p>\n
