April 2023 – COEXPHAL and UAL joint pilot study in organic watermelon crop

In Almeria, COEXPHAL and the University of Almeria will demonstrate and further develop a package of improved management practices for organic greenhouse vegetable crops grown in soil. Since February 2023, a pilot study is being conducted in an organic watermelon crop. The pilot study is enabling these partners to fine tune the use of the procedures that will be used to optimise management of irrigation and nitrogen in organic crops. The procedures being optimised are electric tensiometers, petiole sap analysis and soil solution analysis. This work is the first study, in Almeria, to offer organic growers practical tools to optimise nutrient management.
